Know Your Target Market:
When I first got into the network marketing industry, I was at a big meeting in a hotel auditorium. The people leading that meeting got up and drew all their X’s and Os’s on the board. Almost reminded me of a football playbook. Then they talked about the product and how easy it was to go out and prospect this to others. They said that people will be falling over themselves to get to you. Does any of this sound familiar?
Next they said to get started you must make a list of at least one hundred people that you know. Most people don’t know one hundred people. I know that I didn’t know one hundred people. So what do you do? You start writing in all your family and friends. Uncle Mike, Auntie M, and on and on it goes.
You leave that meeting and everyone is pumped up. You can’t wait to get home and have everyone over to your house and have a meeting of your own. Let me ask you a question. How many people showed up to your meeting? How many are still your friends or will say that you are family? I know the feeling. I was there too. This is what you were told to do, and if you wanted to achieve success, you did what your leaders told you to do. After all, they were doing it…right?
Let me tell you, there is a better way. You must know your target market. I love hockey. If I wanted to start a hockey team I would go out and look for hockey players. People that understand and play the game of hockey. I would not go and talk to Uncle Mike or Auntie M. They don’t even know what hockey is.
There is a 95% failure rate in the MLM industry. Why? They are talking to all the wrong people. You must focus your attention on other network marketers. They know the business and have proven that they are interested and willing to try anything that will help them succeed. You don’t have to explain to them how an MLM business works. They already know. This is your target market.
Who would you rather talk to. Uncle Mike who only has a job mentality, or Mary Smith, who is already in the MLM industry but just hasn’t hit her stride yet? Instead of having meetings at your house, or going to the malls and passing out fliers, zero all your energies toward the people who are ready to hear what you have to say. Network marketers are where your efforts should be pointing too.
Once you know your target market, now you can be very specific as to what their needs are and offer them a solution. The solution is coming in rule #2 of attraction marketing.
There are only three types of people in the world. Those that make things happen. Those that watch things happen, and those that wonder, “what just happened?” Which one are you?
