Advice and Strategies That Will Take You Out of This World

There is a Very Thin Line Between Success and Failure – Are You On It?

They say that highly intelligent people or people with high IQ’s are people that walk the thin line of schizophrenia. High intelligence borders the line of insanity. These people are always just a little bit different from everyone else when it comes to their social skills and their social behavior.

Are you on the thin line between success and failure?

I have two friends that have very high IQ’s. They are extremely nice people and very giving people, but both of them are suffer from some sort of social behavior.

One of my friends can’t stand crowds or a room full of people. You will never find him out shopping for Christmas gifts.

My other friend is so meticulous, that one time, it took him two months to buy a pen. He shopped for two solid months to find just the right pen for the price. Whenever I’m shopping for the best price on anything, I will always call him to do the research. He’s a stickler for details.

The same holds true for those of us who wish to become successful. There is a very thin line between success and failure…are you on it?

What separates those who become successful and those who fail. It doesn’t matter what you’re in or what you’re doing, if you want to be successful at it, you must walk that very thin line.

Let’s take a look at a couple of successful people and see what’s the difference between them and you and me.

Michael Jordan

Do you know that Michael Jordan did not make his high school basketball team. How would you like to be the high school coach that cut Michael Jordan from playing on the high school basketball team? What a stigma to carry for the rest of your life, but Michael Jordan was determined to play basketball and that’s the first point. Have a goal and aim for it.

Most people don’t have any goals or aspirations that they would like to achieve in their life. They just drift around, like a twig on the water. Just floating until they bump into something and that’s where they settle for awhile. My old pastor used to say; “you’re aiming at nothing and hitting it”.

Is that you today? What are your dreams? What do you want to be when you grow up? I don’t care who you are or how old you are, find something to focus on and then take aim and shot it! Set your goals.

Do you think Michael Jordan achieved his goal of playing basketball? Yea, that and just a little bit more.

Thomas Edison

I can guarantee, that after you have set your dream in motion and you have your eye on the goal, and you are getting ready to hit that target, there will be people; good friends, your spouse, your family, who are going to try and shoot you down. It’s not if they will try, it’s when they will try. You are going to here a barrage of questions and comments, that if you’re not ready, could knock you right off the horse.

Thomas Edison heard them and he had all kinds of things that went wrong. He was constantly tweaking this and tweaking that, but one thing that made him successful in bringing lights into the world…he never quit!

It’s called perseverance. The ability to be so focused on the goal, that nothing, and I mean nothing, is going to keep you from winning that prize. It took Thomas Edison ten thousand attempts, but he was determined to bring the incandescent light bulb into our world.

We have to go back to Michael Jordan to bring this last point that I want to make.

What made Michael Jordan so good? Was he just this natural born talent that could make the basketball go into the basket every time he would shoot? NO!

He worked hard, he worked very hard, and he worked harder that anyone else. His teammates would leave the practice and go home and Michael would stay for hours just shooting the basketball over and over again.

To be successful at what you do, you have to work harder than the other teams that you have to play against. You have to go to that next level, where they and no one else wants to go, and you have to park yourself there if you want to win. Anyone who has played sports or been in any kind of competition knows what I’m talking about.

To achieve your goal, the place where you’re at must become intolerable, and the place where you want to be must become non- negotiable.

Become a student of you’re game and work hard at it, dominate it, be prepared for anything, and when it comes, you will win. You will be successful!

Failing is a part of winning. You have to learn how to loose before you can learn how to win, so if you’ve failed and you’ve fallen down, get right back up. Brush yourself off and get back in the game. You only loose when you quit!

Fail forward. It’s through the gate of failure that you learn how and what to tweak and change and perfect until you’ve got it right, and then walk through the gate of success and winning.

  1. Set Your Goals

  2. Never Quit

  3. Work Hard at Hitting The Mark

I’ll end with a quote from Michael Jordan. You may have heard this already, but it’s worth repeating again.

“I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career…I’ve lost almost 300 games…26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed…I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life…And that is why I succeed.”

Here’s to your success.

Live Your Dreams

Ask any kid ; “what would you like to be when you grow up?”, and you’ll get a verity of different answers.

There are always the standard answers like, I would like to be a fire fighter, detective, doctor, or perhaps even president. My granddaughter wants to be a model when she grows up, and I believe she’ll do it. She adores the camera and is an exceedingly beautiful girl.

Naturally, I am a little biased in my judgment, but when you look into their eyes, you see this wonder and excitement when they talk about living their dreams. Their eyes are wide as saucers and they talk about them as if there isn’t any question in their mind, they’re going to occur.

What happens to all those dreams? What’s happened to your dream? What’s happened to my dream? Are you living your dreams? Do you have a dream? I believe as we age, our dreams may change. Circumstances and maturity sets in and change or change how we look at life and our circumstances. The wide eyed kid has matured into an adult and his dreams have also matured with him.

I always wanted to be a baseball player. I loved sports and played hockey also, but life’s circumstances modified all that and living my dream as a pro athlete disappeared. As I chatted to people who have known me awhile and I disclosed to them what my youth dream always was, they sort of look at me a little funny, and say…really? They have that, “I do not believe you”, look on their face. Ever had that occur to you? They kinda giggle at your dreams.

If you’re a dreamer, and entrepreneurs are dreamers or visionaries, you’ll have more than one dream and you’ll have more than one occasion where you receive the looks and laughter at your dreams and visions.

There are tons of dreamers, visionaries, entrepreneurs that are out there, but I want to bring  a couple to your attention.

1.Leonardo da Vinci

This guy was born on April 15, 1452. He used to be a true dreamer. His drawings included detailed drawings of flight machines. Are you able to imagine him attempting to speak with his buddies about assembling a gizmo that would take somebody into the air? Talk about getting some looks and laughs, and think he may have gotten his share.

2. Thomas Edison

Besides giving us light through the incandescent bulb, Thomas Edison also gave us the phonograph and amassed 1093 U.S patents. He’s credited with many inventions that made a contribution to mass communications and, particularly telecommunication. This fellow was always thinking and dreaming of what could  be.

3. Charles Babbage

Where would we be without PCs today? I remember when I was in school, PCs were in their youth, and the dream that sometime a machine would have such capabilities as the PC does today was a particularly silly concept. Well, thanks to Charles Babbage, the dream is alive today. He was a British mathematician, thinker, inventor, and mechanical engineer who originated the idea of a programmable PC. Babbage is credited with inventing the 1st mechanical PC that at last led on to more complicated designs.

Each one of those dreamers and visionaries had disasters, bumps in the road, and people in the way screaming their sarcasm and negative slurs. That should only make you the more driven to win. Success has to go through some failed doors first. Failure isn’t final. Failure is merely a tool that leads to success and the accomplishment of your dream.

What are your dreams? Wish to open and run a successful business? Wish to open a college for inner city youngsters? What’s the vision you have? I’m sure you can see it as if it is alive and taking place. If this is you, I want to tell you to never, ever stop dreaming, and do not listen to the naysayers. Those people who say, “that will never happen,” “you can’t do that”. You cannot stop them from saying that at you, but don’t listen to them.

You are different. Only 3% of the planet’s population are dreamers and visionaries. The other 97% live in the box. Do not let those 97% scream their negative talk at you. Do not let them knock you off the track you are traveling. Stay the course, hold the line, and always continue moving forward toward your goals. Never stop living your dreams.

Zig Zigular said, “You were born to win, but to be a winner, you have to plan to win, gear up to win, and expect to win.

Learning the secrets to life is the key that unlocks the doors to success in anything that you decide to undertake. Take that first step today.

How Much Do You Need?

If you could name how much money you would need to live a comfortable life today, how much do you need? Would a  half million dollars a year be enough? How about a million a year or a million a month, maybe that would be enough to give you a comfortable life to live. Really,… how much would you need?

I’m not talking about wishes and dreams, I am talking about just giving you a comfortable living. No frills, just comfortable. Nice car, not luxury. Nice house, no swimming pools. Vacations, yes, and hobbies are part of a healthy comfortable life. Comfortable, not luxury is what we are talking about. How much do you need?

Say you could live this comfortable life on about 50,000 dollars a year, but you made 100,000 a year. What would you do with the excess? Pay your mortgage off? You could do that with the Money Merge Account program from United First Financial. Pay that mortgage off in one third to one half the time, and do it without refinancing, and without changing your monthly payment. Or you could help out those poor guys at AIG, who have to give all their bonus’ back.aig

But, all kidding aside, what if you gave the rest of your money away? Gave the other 50,000 dollars to charities, or maybe to someone that you know is struggling  financially, or you could find someone who is unemployed and can’t make their mortgage payment, and might loose their home. Make a couple of payments for them, buy some groceries, pay their utilities. If we, who are doing better than those others, all chipped in, we could make a difference. Just think of the tax deduction you could have, and the nice check you would probably get back at tax time.

This is what makes America great. This is what makes us different from the fat cats in Washington, or the ones on Wall Street, or in Hollywood. They don’t know nor can they remember where they came from. I heard it said, ” know where your going, and plan for the future, but never forget where you came from. It’s not all the big stuff, it’s the little stuff, bit by bit, one piece at a time, that you put all together, makes America great.

America is built and runs on the backs of the little guys at the bottom. The small businesses, the home based businesses, the little guys that are keeping the oil burning. Sure, we need someone at the top making the calls and getting the orders, but the chasm between you and me and them is so wide, we live in two totally different worlds.

I think it is time, for those who can, to reach back and give a helping hand to the one behind you. It doesn’t take a lot. Just a little bit can go a long way.

I heard the stories from my parents and grand parents about the days of the great depression. How everybody chipped in to do their part. People helping people. Don’t wait for the government to help you. They will take your wallet out from your back pocket, take that ten dollar bill you had in there, and give two dollars back.

There is some of this starting to happen now. There is an Apartment Lease Company that is offering, two months of rent free, to anyone who is laid off. Hoping this gives you time to get back on your feet and you stay with them, but if you don’t, you walk away with no obligation to pay anything back. It is their way of reaching out to help those who are hurting right now. This is a perfect example to what I am talking about. Helping those who we can help. This is something that we must all learn to survive.

Jesus said;

Luk 6:38 ” give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”

Mat 25:45 ” Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’

God bless us to make the right decisions.
